Onko chishin (温故知新) — “Review the past to understand the future.” A Japanese expression about learning from what came before in order to move forward with greater clarity.
Part of the Kanso series, Wise explores rhythm, repetition and stability through a bold typographic composition. A deep crimson background brings warmth and intensity, balanced by the calm, structured stacking of the lettering.
The heavy horizontal forms create a strong architectural presence, almost like steps carved into stone, giving the artwork a sense of permanence and quiet reflection.
